Activating a Segment
Once segments have been created on MoonFish they can be activated, allowing audience computation triggering.
The user has three options to activate a taxonomy. These are Streaming, Kick-start, or Kick-start + Streaming.
Streaming
To activate a taxonomy via the Streaming option, the user should click on the “Stream” button. Here, he or she will be able to choose the activation target and streaming duration (either by end date or number of days) for the new audience delivery. Once both have been selected, the user can click on “Create” to activate the taxonomy.
Kick-start
To activate a taxonomy via the Kick-start option, the user should click on the “Kick-start” button. Here, he or she will be able to choose the activation target for the new audience delivery to transfer users matching his/her content within the last 30 days. Once both have been selected, the user can click on “Create” to activate the taxonomy.
Kick-start + Streaming
For this option, the user can activate a kick-start first and then activate streaming.
It should be noted though that if the activation target is WAM, this may cause a discrepancy between the volumes that appear on MoonFish and what appears on WAM. This is due to the way kick-start and streaming profiles are computed into WAM from BigSea and can occur when a streaming job is activated on a MoonFish segment that has been kick-started. The instant a segment is kick-started, you will be able to see the same volumes on both MoonFish and WAM. This contains X amount of users within the past 30 days. However once streaming even for another segment is activated, this can cancel out the kick-start. On BigSea, kick-started and streamed profiles are stored in different databases, and WAM doesn’t take into account whether the profiles are coming from kick-start or streaming. WAM only takes into account the most recent profile.
Let’s take for example users X and Y on a MoonFish segment “Vegan“ that has been kick-started to WAM, thus showing the users' profiles for the last 30 days. Users X and Y, each representing 1 million users, appear in the segment “Vegan“. The next day, streaming is activated for another MoonFish segment “bio“. User Y appears in the segment “bio“, so the previous day profile of user Y is cancelled and replaced by the new profile which contains “bio“. So if we started with 2 million users from the kick-start, we are now down to 1 million. This happens regardless of whether the streaming was activated first or kick-start; WAM only takes the most recent profiles into account. This however, does not reflect on the volume estimate of kick-started profiles on MoonFish; the volume estimate has a 95% accuracy of volumes for kick-started profiles.
